Energy company Chevron Corporation has hired Hewitt Pate as its general counsel and vice president.
He will report to the former general counsel, Charles James, who has been appointed to the position of executive vice president.
Pate will direct the company’s worldwide legal affairs and serve on Chevron’s executive committee.
Prior to joining Chevron, Pate was a partner at Hunton & Williams LLP in Washington, DC, where he headed the firm’s competition practice. Before that, he served as an assistant attorney general for the antitrust division of the US Department of Justice.
Based in San Ramon, California, Chevron produces, sells and transports fuels and other energy products and natural gases.
