Arbitration specialist Christian Leathley has joined Herbert Smith LLP in London as of counsel.
He returns to the UK from Curtis Mallet-Prevost Colt & Mosle LLP in New York where he was international arbitration counsel.
Leathley, who is also a fluent Spanish speaker, specialises in Latin American-related investment treaty and commercial arbitration work.
At Herbert Smith, he will play a key role in the development of the firm’s international arbitration practice in Spain and Latin America and will spend considerable time at the firm’s Madrid office.
Leathley says Herbert Smith is “without question one of the world’s leading dispute resolution firms with a world class international arbitration group. The firm’s European and Asian practices are top-tier and it is a privilege to be part of the Latin American practice.”
He adds that he will be leaving behind some “cherished colleagues” at Curtis Mallet and that his experience at the firm was “excellent”: “I was involved in state representations in a number of ICSID matters and Curtis continues to be very active in that field.”
George Kahale III, a partner in Curtis’s New York office, says of Leathley “He’s a wonderful person and we wish him the best.”
He features in The International Who’s Who of Oil & Gas Lawyers.
