Dispute resolution lawyer Martin Bakes has been named the first general counsel of international firm Herbert Smith LLP.
He will be based in London.
Working closely with the firm’s head of risk management, Claire Wilson, Bakes will administer all risk and compliance matters.
He is currently a partner in Herbert Smith’s insurance and reinsurance litigation group where he focuses specifically on issues of non-disclosure and construction of a wide variety of policies.
He has represented parties in disputes involving claims against brokers and solicitors, and product liability.
Bakes also has vast experience in handling overseas litigation on behalf of UK insurers and their insureds.
He will begin in his new post on 1 May.
