On 1 January 2010, Thomas Heather opened law firm Heather & Heather in Mexico with seven other members, including his two sons.
Most recently, Heather chaired the Latin American financial restructuring and insolvency practice at White & Case LLP’s Mexico City office. After five years with the firm, Heather began the ‘third and final stage’ of his career by establishing his own firm, bringing with him over 30 years of experience. He says: “I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of practice in a global firm and look forward to the development of Heather & Heather.”
Heather has expertise in the areas of restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, banking, securities and corporate governance. He was previously a partner at Ritch Heather y Mueller SC (now Ritch Mueller SC), where he spent 25 years developing the firm into a major player in the Mexican legal market.
He has worked on some of Mexico’s largest and most complex insolvency cases, including that of satellite operator Satmex, retail group Comercial Mexicana and tortilla producer Gruma.
The new firm will focus on insolvency and restructuring, dispute resolution, corporate governance and capital markets work. Heather also intends to expand his work as an arbitrator.
Heather features in several Who’s Who Legal publications including Banking, Capital Markets, Mergers and Acquisitions, Commercial Arbitration, Corporate Governance and Insolvency and Restructuring.
