Renowned international arbitrator Mark Clodfelter has joined the Washington, DC, office of Foley Hoag LLP.
He joins the firm from Winston & Strawn LLP, where he worked as of counsel for two years, before which he spent seven years as head of international claims and investment disputes at the US State Department.
For over 25 years Clodfelter has practised in investor-state arbitration and other international disputes. His track record includes securing instructions from Ecuador to defend investment law cases brought by oil companies Repsol, Murphy Oil and Chevron/Texaco. He has also represented the US in claims under chapter 11 of NAFTA, in addition to sitting as arbitrator in 12 cases under AAA rules.
Commenting on his move, Clodfelter says: “Not only has the Foley Hoag won more work on cases before the International Court of Justice and state-to-state arbitral tribunals than any other firm, but it has a rapidly growing investor-state arbitration practice as well.”
Clodfelter features in The International Who’s Who of Commercial Arbitration.
