The E*TRADE Financial Corporation has announced the appointment of Karl Roessner to the position of executive vice president and general counsel based in New York.
He will also act as a corporate secretary to the board of directors.
Reporting to chairman and CEO Donald Layton, Roessner is responsible for overseeing all legal, regulatory and compliance matters.
Roessner has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions having practised in the field for over 16 years. For the past eight years, he has worked with E*TRADE representing the company in acquisitions and divestitures including the acquisitions of BrownCo and Harrisdirect and most recently, the divestiture of E*TRADE Canada.
Prior to joining the corporation, Roessner was a partner at the New York office of Clifford Chance where he advised clients on negotiated public and private transactions, management and leveraged buyouts, and capital raising activities.
He took up the position on 15 May.
