Competition economist Damien Neven has joined Charles River Associates as a senior academic consultant in Brussels.
He will work closely with the firm’s economists and academic associates in Europe and the US.
Neven is a former chief economist at DG Competition where he led the expansion of the chief economist team and provided direct advice to the competition commissioner.
He worked on the development of quantitative methods of investigation, specifically for horizontal mergers, which were used in cases such as Aer Lingus/Ryanair and Statoil/ConocoPhillips.
Neven is also a lecturer at the University of Geneva’s graduate institute where he teaches economics.
Cristina Caffarra, head of European competition at CRA, says the firm is “delighted” with Neven’s decision to join. “We believe it represents an endorsement of the quality of our work,” she says. “Damien brings fantastic experience and a unique perspective of nearly five years as chief economist. We look forward immensely to working with him.”
“CRA is a very professional and competent consultancy,” says Neven. “It will be a pleasure and a real opportunity to draw on the firm’s resources as a consultant.”
Neven features in The International Who’s Who of Competition Lawyers and Economists.
