Cecil Abraham, one of Malaysia’s most highly regarded arbitrators, has launched his own boutique in Kuala Lumpur after eight years’ heading the dispute resolution team at Zul Rafique & Partners.
He brings with him three partners and three associates and plans to hire more associates by the end of the year.
His new firm entitled Cecil Abraham & Partners, focuses on litigation and arbitration services. Abraham will continue to divide his time between serving as arbitrator in commercial disputes and appearing as counsel in arbitrations and before the higher courts of Malaysia.
He says friends and clients encouraged him to establish his own firm and that the experience has been “invigorating”. “It has given me and my team a new lease on life,” he adds.
Abraham’s career spans almost five decades. He joined the Kuala Lumpur-based firm Shearn Delamore & Co in 1970 where he served as head of the dispute resolution group and managing partner during his 38 years with the firm. He joined Zul Rafique in 2007.
Abraham is a member of the advisory board of the International Council of Commercial Arbitration and represents Malaysia in the ICC Court. He is listed in Who’s Who Legal: Commercial Litigation.
