BPI names new general counsel

Barrister and media-and-entertainment lawyer Kiaron Whitehead been named the new general counsel of UK recording industry group the BPI.
Whitehead joins from litigation firm Forbes Anderson Free, where he specialised in intellectual property law and represented major and independent record labels and recording artists during his six years with the firm. He replaces Roz Groome, who left the company earlier this year. However, he will officially take over the role in March 2008 from Simon Baggs of Wiggin LLP, who is currently acting general counsel.
The BPI is the trade association for the UK record industry. It represents over 300 record companies in the UK, including major labels Universal, Sony BMG and EMI.
