Leading natural resources company BHP Billiton has appointed David Williamson as chief legal counsel based in Melbourne.
He replaces Mike Ferraro who joined BHP from Freehills and held the position since January 2008.
Williamson joins from Blake Dawson where he was a partner for over 20 years. During his time at the firm, he led a number of major transactions for clients such as ANZ and BHP Billiton. His roles included practice head for M&A, and board member and client relationship partner for BHP Billiton, led to his reputation as one of Australia’s leading M&A lawyers.
Commenting on his new post, Williamson said: “It is a tremendous opportunity to work in such a senior role at a truly global corporation with outstanding people.”
