Arsenal Football Club has appointed the former MTV Networks Europe (MTVNE) general counsel, Svenja Geissmar, as its first-ever in-house lawyer.
She will take up the post as general counsel on 21 September.
Geissmar served for over 11 years with the music network, having joined MTVNE in 1995, and was promoted to general counsel in 1997. She provided legal and commercial support to all aspects of the corporation’s business across Europe and she also initiated, developed and headed the corporate social responsibility profile and activities for MTVNE.
In her new role, Geissmar will report to the CEO of Arsenal, Ivan Gazidis, who joined Arsenal in January 2009 from Major League Soccer in the USA.
Geissmar joins after an extensive recruitment process by Arsenal to appoint a new chief commercial officer, head of people and operations, and general counsel.
