The former managing partner of Duane Morris LLP’s Atlanta office has been named the new senior vice president and general counsel of US national power supply company Oglethorpe Power Corporation.
The appointment of “Chuck” Whitney was announced on 20 July following the corporations’ decision to move its general counsel back in-house after using outside counsel for several years.
Whitney says, “I’m thrilled to be joining Oglethorpe Power as it prepares to invest billions of dollars in power generating resources that will help ensure an adequate supply of electric power for Georgia for years to come. I’m leaving a great law firm in Duane Morris, but I look forward to the opportunities that this exciting new position will bring.”
Whitney has practised law for over 20 years and specialises particularly in nuclear energy, regulatory, construction and labour law. His experience covers both private practice and working in-house; he has represented independent power producers and engineering, procurement and construction contractors in the development, construction and operation of power projects in several states.
His track record also includes serving as president and CEO of Southern’s European international energy subsidiary.
