Lars Kjølbye has joined the Brussels office of Covington & Burling LLP as a partner in its global antitrust and competition practice. He was previously a partner at Howrey LLP.
Kjølbye brings with him more than ten years of experience from the European Commission’s Directorate General for Competition (DG Comp), where he was head of the energy and environment antitrust unit before moving to Howrey in 2008.
He focuses on complex cases in the fields of abuse of dominance, restrictive practices and merger control. He has extensive experience across a number of industry sectors including energy, aviation, pharmaceuticals, IT, banking, patent pools, sports rights and telecoms.
“I am very pleased to be joining Covington, which has a fantastic reputation for guiding clients through highly regulated environments,” said Kjølbye. “There are clear synergies between antitrust and regulated industries. My experience in energy, telecoms and high-tech, combined with Covington’s specialised regulatory group, offers great potential for us to work together and build an even stronger practice in Brussels.”
Commenting on Kjølbye’s departure, Trevor Soames, co-chair of Howrey’s antitrust practice in Brussels, said: “We knew and respected Lars for many years whilst he was serving with DG Comp and have had the pleasure of working with him as a partner here at Howrey for the last two years. During that time our respect for his professionalism and expertise grew yet further. We wish him the very best both personally and professionally.”
Kjølbye features in The International Who’s Who of Competition Lawyers and Economists.
