Dianne Elderkin and a team of two patent lawyers have joined the IP litigation practice at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP in Philadelphia.
They arrive from Philadelphia-based Woodcock Washburn LLP.
Elderkin is an eminent trial lawyer with a focus on patent infringement cases. For over two decades she has litigated and tried cases involving a variety of technologies, health care instruments and pharmaceuticals, consumer products and building materials.
She has significant in-house experience, having worked as patent counsel for the DuPont Company for nine years before entering private practice.
In a recent case, Elderkin led a team of lawyers that won a jury verdict for Johnson & Johnson’s Centocor Ortho Biotech unit in a patent infringement suit against Abbott Laboratories. The result was an award of $1.67 billion in damages – the largest patent verdict in US history according to Bloomberg.
“Akin Gump’s reputation in high-profile litigation is first-rate. We are thrilled to be joining a nationwide practice with such great depth,” said Elderkin.
