Allan Dick is a co-managing partner at Sotos LLP. He is a trusted primary adviser to many top franchisors, with more than three decades practising law in the franchising, licensing and distribution industry. He is recognised and consistently ranked as one of Canada’s leading franchise litigators (including in “band 1” of Chambers Canada and named 2020 Franchise Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in Canada) and has extensive experience at every level of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada as well as before national and international arbitration tribunals. Allan regularly provides expert opinions to other counsel. Allan is the firm’s sector leader for the restaurant industry. His litigation experience extends to disputes in the home services, professional services, hotel services, grocery, personal services, retail and telecommunications sectors of the franchise industry. Allan regularly provides crisis management counsel to franchisors including designing preventative crisis management programmes. As a trademark agent, Allan also handles trademark litigation and opposition matters. Allan was an original member of the Ontario Bar Association franchise law section and its predecessors and served as its chair. Allan graduated from the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto in 1982 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1984.
