Biography

Adedolapo Akinrele was educated at Clifton College, Bristol; and graduated from University College London and the University of East Anglia, Norfolk. He was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1987.

He is a life member of the Bentham Law Society at University College London. He is an associate editor of a series of global oil, gas and energy law publications by Professor T W Wälde (the Jean Monnet chair for EU economic and energy law).

He was appointed as the consulting contributor the Encyclopaedia of Hydrocarbons (published by Eni and edited by, among others, Professor Piero Bernardini of Luiss University, Rome).

He was elevated to the inner bar as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2006.

Adedolapo published a comprehensive 800-page treatise on Nigerian oil and gas in 2005, endorsed by the Centre for Energy and Mineral Law and Policy at the University of Dundee.

He is currently a board member of the Journal of World Energy Law and Business (published by Oxford University Press).

He has written numerous articles, including: “Transparency in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry” (Journal of World Energy Law and Business, volume 7(3), June 2014); and “The Current Impact of Global Crude Oil Prices on Nigeria: An overview of the Nigerian petroleum and energy sector” (Journal of World Energy Law and Business, volume 9(5), October 2016).

He currently acts as managing partner of the firm, FO Akinrele & Co. He has been in commercial practice for the past 30 years as a leading specialist in energy and natural resources, and has represented several of the world’s major oil and gas producers.

Biography

Adedolapo Akinrele was educated at Clifton College, Bristol; and graduated from University College London and the University of East Anglia, Norfolk. He was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1987.

He is a delegate to the Comite Maritime International (1990); a member of the Nigerian Maritime Law Journal editorial board; and a life member of the Bentham Law Society at University College London.

He was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2006.

He has practised maritime and shipping law for over 30 years, helping to develop shipping and transport law policy in Nigeria. He is currently retained by the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and represents a broad spectrum of other clients, in matters ranging from non-contentious shipping transactional work to contentious work through the courts and by way of arbitration (under various arbitral rules including under the UNCITRAL and ICC Rules).

He represents ship owners, and protection and indemnity associations, on specialist marine issues such as navigation; seamanship; classification chartering; ship registration and transfer; admiralty charterparty disputes; cargo claims; P&I matters; marine insurance disputes; enforcement of ship mortgages; bunker disputes; international trade disputes; crew wages and shipboard personal injury claims; ship sale and purchase transactions; ship financing; ship registration and de-registration; International Maritime Organization Conventions; ISPS codes; maritime security; and enforcement.

Adedolapo’s clients include the North of England Protection and Indemnity Association (1997 to date); the American Club (2000); the West of England Protection and Indemnity Association; the Norwegian marine insurance company Skuld; and several ship owners, charterers, insurers and operators across the world.
