Matthew E Draper acts as counsel and arbitrator in complex international and domestic disputes. Draper has more than 15 years’ experience litigating disputes concerning energy, commodities, financial services, private equity, transportation, telecommunications, and construction. He also represents states in transboundary water disputes before the US Supreme Court.

Draper is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and currently acts as vice-chair of the alternative dispute resolution committee of the American Bar Association’s section on the environment, energy and resources. He is a member of the ICDR’s international roster of arbitrators, and the AAA’s large and complex disputes panel. He serves on SIAC’s Users Council, and is a member of the arbitration committee of the New York City Bar Association and the New York International Arbitration Center. He also served on the ICC Commission’s Task Force on Arbitration involving states or state entities.

Before founding his own practice, Draper was a litigator and international arbitration practitioner at WilmerHale, Sullivan & Cromwell, and Chaffetz Lindsey. From 2002 to 2003 he served as a legal officer to the OSCE’s High Commissioner on National Minorities, where he advised on issues of public international law.

Draper regularly writes and presents on issues of international law and dispute resolution.

Draper is a graduate of Princeton University (magna cum laude) and Columbia Law School (Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar). He served as the articles-submissions editor for the Columbia Journal of Transnational Law, and received a Certificate of Achievement from the Parker School of Foreign and Comparative Law.

Draper is a member of the New York, District of Columbia and New Mexico bars.
