Who's Who Legal Data: Data Privacy and Protection

Samuel Klaus is a senior associate in Schellenberg Wittmer's information and communication technology and intellectual property group in Zurich. He advises clients regarding technology projects, outsourcing transactions and in all matters related to software development, licensing, e-commerce and data protection/data privacy issues, in particular related to new technologies (such as blockchain, building information modelling (BIM) and internet of things (IoT) matters).

Samuel Klaus was educated at the universities of Zurich (lic iur 2002, Dr iur/PhD 2009), KU Leuven (Belgium) and UC Berkeley, USA (LLM in Law and Technology 2014). After his LLM he worked as an associate at one of the top technology law firms in Silicon Valley (Mountain View, USA). He has working experience as a teaching and research assistant at the University of Zurich, as a judicial secretary at the District Court of Zurich and as legal counsel for a large technology consulting company as well as for a large public utility company in the energy sector. Before joining Schellenberg Wittmer in 2016, Samuel Klaus worked as an associate in the information technology, intellectual property and competition team of a major law firm in Zurich.

Samuel Klaus is registered with the Swiss and Zurich bar associations and admitted to practice in all Switzerland. He is co-chair of the ITechLaw e-commerce law committee and a member of the Information Security Society Switzerland (ISSS) as well as of the Licensing Executives Society Switzerland (LES-CH). Samuel regularly speaks and publishes in his fields of expertise and holds a position as instructor at a centre of learning for construction specialists.
