Dr Cristina E Alexe, FCIArb is partner of a Romanian law office, having almost 20 years of experience in legal matters as a member of the Bucharest Bar and the Romanian Bar Association. Her practice focuses on international arbitration, advising on matters of international law, contract law and cross-border jurisdiction, and assisting clients in arbitration proceedings in front of Romanian and international courts of arbitration under various rules of arbitration (ICC, VIAC, UNCITRAL, ICSID and CICA CCIR). Her arbitration experience is strengthened by her strong knowledge as a transactional lawyer in M&A/privatisation, banking and finance, real estate and project finance matters.

Dr Cristina Alexe has acted, and continues to act, as international arbitrator with the ICC International Court of Arbitration and the Bucharest Court of International Commercial Arbitration.

She is listed on the Vienna International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) list of arbitration practitioners and with the Court of Arbitration of the Romanian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Dr Cristina Alexe is a fellow with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

She graduated from the ICC Advanced Arbitration Academy for Central and Eastern Europe, having studied on a unique two-year advanced level training course designed for professionals interested in pursuing a career as an international arbitrator. This course is held under the auspices of the ICC Institute of World Business Law and the ICC International Court of Arbitration.

Dr Cristina Alexe was previously managing associate, and co-head of the international arbitration practice group, at a major Romanian law firm, Popovici Nițu Stoica & Asociații (2003–2014); she was also a senior associate with Mușat & Asociații (1998–2003).

Her strong academic experience includes a PhD in civil procedure awarded in 2008 by the University of Bucharest Faculty of Law, with the highest academic distinction (summa cum laude). The title of her thesis was “The Civil Trial Judge Between an Active Role and Arbitrariness: Comparative Studies”.

She continued her academic work with the University of Bucharest Faculty of Law and is currently visiting lecturer at the international arbitration LLM (2013–) and has previously taught weekly seminars on civil procedure law for the fourth-year students (1998–2000).

Dr Cristina Alexe has published over 20 articles on civil procedure, international arbitration and commercial law. She is fluent in Romanian and English, with a good knowledge of French. She is a member of the ICCA, LCIA European User’s Council, the Institute for Transnational Arbitration, ICC YAF and YIAG.
