Biography:

Who's Who Legal Switzerland - Arbitration

Manuel Arroyo is a partner and heads the arbitration department at Meyerlustenberger Lachenal, one of Switzerland’s largest law firms, with offices in Zurich, Zug, Geneva, Lausanne and Brussels.

Manuel is a full-time arbitration practitioner. Based in Zurich, he has acted in over 70 international commercial arbitrations as counsel or arbitrator. His areas of specialisation include oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, sales, transport, infrastructure, construction, engineering, agency, distribution and franchising.

A former law clerk to the Swiss Federal Supreme Court, where he was involved in 124 commercial cases, he also regularly advises or represents parties before the Supreme Court in setting aside proceedings against international awards, or before lower Swiss courts to seek recognition and enforcement of awards.

Manuel is the sole editor and co-author of the most comprehensive treatise on arbitration in Switzerland (Arbitration in Switzerland – The Practitioner's Guide, 1656 pages, Kluwer Law International, 2013) and the author of 40 further publications. He has been a speaker at 23 international arbitration conferences.

Manuel "has impressive analytical skills and a deep knowledge of arbitration law" (The Legal500 EMEA, 2016) and has been praised as an "international arbitration expert" (SchiedsVZ, 2015).

After completing his law studies at the University of Basel (Dr iur/lic iur), Manuel was admitted to the Basel/Swiss bar in 2002. He holds an LLM in international commercial arbitration law from the University of Stockholm where he graduated with the highest honours and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb), ASA, ICCA, IBA, DIS, CEA, and more.

He is fluent in five languages: German and Spanish (native languages), English (main working language), Italian and French.
