Who's Who Legal Arbitration: Future Leaders - Partners

Alex Bevan is a partner in Shearman & Sterling’s international arbitration group and the managing partner of the firm’s Abu Dhabi office. He also heads the firm’s construction practice.

Alex Bevan advises and represents companies and state-owned entities in complex international proceedings under the arbitration rules of the ICC, LCIA, HKIAC, ICSID, LMAA and in ad hoc arbitrations (including under the UNCITRAL arbitration rules). His practice focuses on construction and development projects, investments, acquisitions and joint venture disputes. His industry experience notably includes multiple matters in the infrastructure, power, oil and gas and telecoms sectors. He also regularly acts as arbitrator.

Alex Bevan has extensive experience in international arbitrations related to construction and engineering projects, including civil infrastructure (hospitals, airports, railways), energy (oil and gas, nuclear, power and renewable), real estate and urban development, industrial plants and shipbuilding. His practice includes the full spectrum of issues arising in engineering and construction disputes, such as delay claims, defective works, change orders and cost variations, unforeseen circumstances and many others.

Alex Bevan has been distinguished in leading directories as a “powerful advocate” and “a clinical cross-examiner” with “invaluable strategic thinking.” He co-chairs the SIAC Users Middle East Council and is a member of the LCIA Court, the International Arbitration Institute (IAI), the ICC’s UAE committee on arbitration, the Swiss Arbitration Association and the Spanish Arbitration Club.

Qualified as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, Alex Bevan is bilingual in English and Spanish.
