Rachel Toney’s shipping and commercial practice includes all aspects of international trade and maritime work (and associated applications for urgent interim relief), including all shipbuilding disputes, warranty claims, a wide variety of bills of lading and charterparty disputes, indemnity claims, agency agreement disputes, contamination and cargo claims, admiralty claims, contracts for the sale and carriage of goods together with insurance and reinsurance. Experienced in mediation as well as arbitration. Rachel has developed a very successful shipbuilding and superyacht practice, an area in which she has represented owners and builders and continues to be instructed in many significant, high-value new-build disputes involving a number of the world’s largest superyachts. In her work as a special advocate, Rachel is instructed on a number of high profile sensitive cases involving issues of national security.

Her professional memberships include COMBAR, Admiralty Bar, London Common Law and Commercial Bar Association, British German Jurists Association and BMLA.

Rachel was called to the Bar in 1998, she was appointed junior counsel to the Crown - panel C 2004 and promoted to panel B in March 2008, she has been a member of the Attorney Generals’ Panel of Special Advocates since 2010.

Rachel was educated at the University of Oxford where she studied law with legal studies in Europe where she was awarded a BA with honours (1997), she went on to study at Konstanz University in Germany where she received a LLM, finalised in 1999.
