Rachel Toney’s shipping and commercial practice includes all aspects of international trade and maritime work (and associated applications for urgent interim relief) including all shipbuilding disputes, warranty claims, a wide variety of bills of lading/charterparty disputes, indemnity claims, agency agreement disputes, contamination and cargo claims, Admiralty claims and contracts for the sale and carriage of goods together with insurance and re-insurance. She is experienced in mediation as well as arbitration. Rachel has developed a very successful shipbuilding and superyacht practice, an area in which she has represented Owners and Builders and continues to be instructed in many significant, high-value new-build disputes involving a number of the world’ s largest superyachts.
Rachel is a member of COMBAR, the Admiralty Bar, the London Common Law and Commercial Bar Association, the British German Jurists Association and BMLA.
Rachel was called to the Bar in 1998; became Junior Counsel to the Crown – Panel C in 2004; was promoted to Panel B in March 2008; and became a member of the Attorney Generals’ Panel of Special Advocates in 2010.
Rachel was educated at Oxford University Law (legal studies in Europe BA Hons (1st), 1997); and Konstanz University, Germany (LLM, finalised 1999).
