Kathryn has more than 40 years’ accounting experience and 25 years’ experience in forensic and dispute consulting services. She acts as an expert witness in litigation and arbitration, and has extensive experience in high-profile and international cases involving accounting and auditing issues and complex calculations of loss and damages. She also acts as an expert determiner.

Kathryn has carried out financial and regulatory investigations, written hundreds of accounting and quantum reports, and testified on many occasions. Her experience includes disputes arising from M&A transactions, shareholder disputes, breach of contract, breach of warranty, competition matters, misrepresentation, fraudulent accounting, professional negligence and insurance claims.

Kathryn's industry experience includes professional services, financial services, natural resources, telecommunications, IT, hospitality, wholesale, retail, pharmaceutical, shipping, logistics and transport, as well as the public sector and regulators. She has worked for European, Far East and United States law firms on cases involving entities in the United Kingdom and Europe, the Far East, the Middle East, India, Africa, the United States and South America.

With an honours degree in mathematics, Kathryn trained and qualified as a chartered accountant with PwC. She became a fellow of the ICAEW in 1989 and a fellow of the Academy of Experts in 2006.

Kathryn is a member of the council of the ICAEW, past chairman of the ICAEW’s forensic and expert witness special interest group and past chairman of the ICAEW’s audit committee. She has also been a non-executive director of the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry and vice chairman of the Academy of Experts. Kathryn is a trained mediator and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Kathryn specialises in dispute advisory services including acting as expert witness and expert determiner, and providing privileged advice. She also undertakes forensic investigations.

Her experience includes many high-profile, international cases acting on behalf of both claimants and defendants. Recently she acted in an ICC arbitration concerning alleged loss of profits arising from faulty plant in the steel industry and an SCC arbitration arising from a post transaction dispute in the shipping industry. She has also acted in many High Court and Regulatory cases including matters concerning alleged breaches of contract, business interruption, fraudulent and false accounting, valuation, interpretation of accounts, professional negligence and insurance claims.

She is one of the UK’s most senior and experienced accountancy expert witnesses, having written hundreds of reports and given oral evidence on many occasions. Her wealth of experience and ability to identify and articulate the critical issues have enabled her to provide clear and robust testimony and also to assist with many pre-action exchanges that have resulted in successful and significant settlements outside the courts.

Kathryn is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a trained mediator.  She has an honours degree in mathematics from London University and qualified as a chartered accountant in 1979. Before joining AlixPartners as a partner and managing director, Kathryn was a partner and chairman of Forensic at KPMG in the UK.
