Bernardo is partner at Wayar & von Borries Abogados SC and has worked at the firm since 2006. His practice focuses on national and international commercial arbitration, investment arbitration, international litigation and cross-border transactions. Prior to becoming partner, Bernardo worked as international associate at the Washington, DC office of Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan from 2014 to 2016.
His experience in arbitration includes assisting clients regarding disputes administered by the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and the arbitration centers of the Chilean National Chamber of Commerce (CNC) and CAINCO, as well as arbitrations under the UNCITRAL rules.
Bernardo graduated as an attorney, summa cum laude with mention, in corporate law from the Bolivian Private University (UPB). He holds an LLM in international dispute settlement from the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, Switzerland). Within his continuous education, Bernardo studied advanced specialisation in analysis of contracts at the Universidad Andina Simon Bolívar; the external programme of The Hague Academy of International Law; international law at the the Heidelberg University summer school; and the dual programme on international commercial arbitration, investment arbitration and international litigation at Cornell Law School and the University of Buenos Aires.
He is the co-founder and director of the Bolivian Arbitration Society. He served as professor of arbitration at UPB and the Franz Tamayo Private University.
Wayar-Ocampo has participated as a speaker or moderator in international arbitration conferences in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru and the US.
