Anya George is a senior associate in Schellenberg Wittmer’s dispute resolution group in Zurich. Her practice focuses on international commercial arbitration and litigation. She has represented states, state-owned entities and private companies in complex multi-jurisdictional disputes across a wide range of sectors with particular emphasis on energy, natural resources, insurance and reinsurance contracts and manufacturing and sales agreements. She has acted as counsel and legal secretary to arbitral tribunals in numerous ad hoc and institutional arbitrations (including under the ICC, LCIA, UNCITRAL and Swiss rules) and has represented parties in commercial litigation proceedings before the Swiss courts, including the Supreme Court.

Anya is trilingual (English/French/German) and dual-qualified as a Swiss attorney and a solicitor of England and Wales. After graduating with honours from the University of Fribourg (lic iur, 2005), she received a master’s in international relations from the University of Cambridge (MPhil, 2006). She joined Schellenberg Wittmer as an associate in August 2010.

In 2013–2014, Anya worked as a foreign associate in the international arbitration department of a Magic Circle law firm in London, where she gained experience in investment treaty arbitration and complex arbitrations in the financial sector. In addition, she spent three months with leading barristers at Essex Court Chambers in London, taking part in a number of trials before the courts of England and Wales.

Anya is a co-chair of the LCIA’s young international arbitration group (YIAG). She is also on the young professionals group committee of the British Swiss Chamber of Commerce and is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. She speaks and publishes regularly on a variety of international arbitration topics.
