Anya George is a senior associate in Schellenberg Wittmer's dispute resolution group in Zurich. Her practice focuses on international commercial arbitration and litigation, with specific experience in disputes involving state-owned entities, insurance and reinsurance contracts, manufacturing and sales agreements and license agreements. She has acted as counsel and legal secretary to arbitral tribunals in numerous ad hoc and institutional arbitrations (including under the ICC, LCIA and Swiss Rules) and has represented parties in commercial litigation proceedings before the Swiss courts, including the Swiss Supreme Court.
Anya is trilingual (English/French/German) and dual-qualified as a Swiss attorney and a solicitor of England and Wales. After graduating with honours from the University of Fribourg (lic.iur., 2005), she went on to receive a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Cambridge (MPhil, 2006). She joined Schellenberg Wittmer as an associate in August 2010.
In 2013/2014, Anya worked as a foreign associate in the international arbitration department of a magic circle law firm in London, where she gained experience in investment treaty arbitration and complex arbitrations in the financial sector. In addition, she spent three months with leading barristers at Essex Court Chambers in London, taking part in a number of trials before the courts of England and Wales.
Anya regularly publishes in the area of international commercial arbitration and is a member of the Swiss Arbitration Association, ASA Below 40, the LCIA, YIAG, and ICC YAF. She is also an associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
