Charlie Lightfoot leads Jenner & Block’s growing London-based international arbitration practice and serves as managing partner of the London office.
Mr Lightfoot has extensive experience handling notable international arbitrations concerning claims running to many hundreds of millions of dollars. He has appeared as advocate both in the English High Court and in many arbitral proceedings. He is also a frequent speaker and author concerning matters of international arbitration and both private and public international law.
Mr Lightfoot’s recent experience includes international disputes in a variety of sectors, including energy, defence, infrastructure and telecommunications. He handles both commercial and investment arbitrations. Many of his engagements are confidential, but among numerous other matters, he has recently successfully represented an oil major in an international arbitration concerning a substantial acquisition in the downstream sector and a foreign real estate investor in proceedings against an eastern European state under a bilateral investment treaty.
An English-qualified solicitor advocate, Mr Lightfoot was identified as a “rising star” by The Legal 500 UK in 2011 and has received its recommendation each year since. In that time, descriptions of Mr Lightfoot include that he is “pleasant and brilliant,” “calm under pressure,” that he "cuts to the chase" and displays “impressive advocacy skills.”
WWL says: Charlie Lightfoot is very well regarded and was praised for his ability to "listen to the client's needs and transform them into something which can add value to the claim".
