Miguel de Almada is a partner of Morais Leitão, Galvão Teles, Soares da Silva & Associados, a leading law firm in Portugal with strong presence in the Portuguese speaking countries. The firm has a long tradition in dispute resolution and the practice is recognised as leader in the market.
Miguel heads one of the firm’s dispute resolution practice groups. He has extensive experience in a wide range of dispute related matters, acting in the field of arbitration both as counsel and arbitrator in numerous ad hoc (including UNCITRAL) and institutional arbitration cases in different jurisdictions and under a variety of substantive and procedural laws and rules.
His most relevant areas of experience include M&A, projects and construction, energy, transports, distribution/agency, investment, finance, media and advertising, public-private partnerships, technology and telecommunications.
Miguel graduated from the University of Lisbon Law School and has postgraduate studies at the Portuguese Catholic University and the New University of Lisbon where he has been a guest Lecturer since 2010 of graduation and post-graduation courses on arbitration. He often speaks in seminars and conferences in Portugal and abroad and he is the author of articles in his areas of practice.
Miguel is a member of several arbitration associations and bodies, among which the board of the arbitration centre Concordia, the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR, the ICC National Committee, and the Commercial Arbitration Practice Commission and the Ethics Commission both of APA, the Portuguese Arbitration Association where he also co-founded and co-chaired APA-40.
Miguel is fluent in Portuguese, English and Spanish and has a good knowledge of French.
