The breadth of Jern-Fei’s practice is reflected in his caseload over the past year, highlights of which include acting on his own in a pair of week-long arbitrations: first in Singapore concerning the Israeli air-conditioning market with claims valued at US$26 million, and then in London in an arbitration worth US$42 million, concerning the transfer of a participating interest in an Indonesian oil company. In addition, he is currently acting in a US$87 million dispute involving allegations of fraud arising out of the sale of an oil rig currently in operation in the Gulf of Mexico. He also acted on his own as sole counsel in a US$29.2 million arbitration involving the supply of lined pipes for use in the oil industry and was also retained as lead counsel on a US$22.5 million dispute arising out of a terminated joint venture between two law firms. Currently he is instructed as sole counsel in a US$16.4 million arbitration in respect of a telecommunications project in a central Asian state.
Other career highlights include appearing (on his own) for a RBS subsidiary before the ECJ in a case in which he was opposed by six EU member states (including the UK). In addition, he is also developing a practice as arbitrator, with 13 ad hoc and institutional appointments to date (HKIAC, LCIA, LMAA, SIAC and PCA) and seven awards published as presiding, sole and/or co-arbitrator.
