Who's Who Legal Arbitration: Lawyers

Nicolas Wiegand has acted as counsel and arbitrator in more than 90 international commercial arbitrations under all major arbitration rules (including ICC, HKIAC, UNCITRAL, SIAC, DIS, LCIA, DIAC, ASA, VIAC, SCC and others), as well as in half a dozen investment treaty cases (ICSID, UNCITRAL). He is the managing partner of CMS, Hong Kong.

Born and raised in Switzerland with German nationality, Nicolas has previously worked in the United States, Australia, Germany and Switzerland, and now heads up the CMS office in Hong Kong where he has been active for many years. He specialises in international disputes between companies from Asia and their business partners in Europe, the US and the rest of the world. Educated in Germany, but practising in both the Asia-Pacific region and Europe, he is able to bridge cultural and legal differences.

In addition to his counsel practice, he regularly sits as arbitrator, in particular in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Inter alia, he is on the panel of arbitrators of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA), the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) and the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA). He lectures on arbitration related matters at international conferences and teaches training courses, inter alia, for the HKIAC.

His most recent practice has focused on disputes relating to joint venture agreements, M&A transactions, IP and IT, major projects/construction, gas/energy supply as well as sales and distribution agreements.

WWL says: Nicolas Wiegand is a "very fine counsel; well prepared, honourable, extremely bright and not too aggressive".
