Stephen is a forensic accounting partner based in BDO’s London office. He has some 20 years of diverse experience in investigations, litigation matters and international arbitration. Stephen graduated with honours with a BSc degree in civil engineering. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and has a postgraduate certificate in fraud risk management from John Moores University, Liverpool.

Prior to joining BDO, Stephen held positions in the forensic services practice of a large global accounting firm and also worked at a specialist US consultancy firm; in both of these roles, he was involved in major investigations and large-scale litigation assignments. Stephen also spent three years working for an international firm of chartered loss adjusters dealing with loss of profits and investigating suspected fraudulent insurance claims.

Much of Stephen’s experience involves cross-border disputes and investigations and he has worked throughout the world. He has led large multinational teams in a number of high-profile cross-border financial investigations. He has been involved in expert witness assignments in the areas of: breach of contract and loss of profits; acquisitions and disposals disputes; minority shareholder and joint venture disputes; professional negligence and interpretation of financial statements; intellectual property; insurance claims; valuations; and directors’ disqualifications. Stephen’s main areas of industry expertise are in the fields of natural resources (particularly mining), automotive, construction, engineering and aerospace.

Stephen heads up BDO forensic group’s contentious insolvency specialism and regularly works alongside insolvency practitioners in a number of roles: as expert accountant; adviser; undertaking investigations to follow cash; and tracing and recovery of assets.
