Alfonso Gutiérrez Cerdas is partner at Consortium Legal - Costa Rica. He is a founder and senior partner of the Costa Rican Law Firm Laclé & Gutiérrez. He is an expert on litigation, arbitration and public law.
Mr Gutierrez has a postgraduate degree in business law, obtained from the Lorenzo Mossa Institute of Commercial and Comparative Law in Italy.
In his career, he has served as deputy judge of the Fourth Chamber of the Supreme Court of Costa Rica (2001–2005) and deputy magistrate of the First Chamber of the Supreme Court of Costa Rica (1991–1999). He has worked at the University of Costa Rica’s Law Faculty as a coordinator of the graduate studies programme of commercial law, and as a professor of commercial law.
He has been a member of arbitral tribunals at the Arbitration Center of the American Chamber of Commerce, and in arbitrations at the Chamber of Commerce of Costa Rica. He is a founder member and president of the board of the Omar Dengo Foundation in Costa Rica, and has participated as a founder member of the Costa Rica-USA Foundation for Cooperation.
He is member of the Costa Rican Bar Association.
He speaks Spanish and English.
