José Ramón Paz has a law degree from the National Autonomous University of Honduras’s Law School (summa cum laude) with a specialisation in commercial, banking and insurance law (1975). He has also studied on the seminars of business administration for corporate lawyers courses I and II at the Central American Institute of Business Administration/Harvard University (1978 and 1979), and the orientation in the US legal system for foreign lawyers course at Georgetown University Law School (1980; course update at George Washington University School of Law in 2010). He was made a notary public by the Supreme Court of Honduras in 1980 and in 1982 earned his LLM from the Center of Financial Institutions of the University of Pennsylvania Law School. In 1992 he undertook internships in public and private trusts and financial leasing Nafin and Banamex in Mexico. In 2009, he studied on the management programme for lawyers at Yale Business School, 2009).
José founded JR Paz & Asociados in 1982, and is the co-founder and partner at Consortium Legal, where he is also the managing partner of the Honduras office. His current practice focuses on cross-border commercial and financial transactions, M&A, trusts, corporations and agency and distributorships. He is a member of the Honduran Bar Association, the American Bar Association (international associate), the International Bar Association, the Inter-American Bar Association and the World Jurist Association. He is Consortium’s representative at FUNDAHRSE, the Honduran corporate social responsibility association, and at the Honduran-American Chamber of Commerce.
He speaks Spanish and English.
