Gerardo Martin Hernandez is a partner at Consortium Legal – Nicaragua and leads the arbitration and litigation practice. He is certified as a commercial arbitrator by the Chamber of Commerce of Nicaragua and has received advanced PIDA training from the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris. He is a member of the Latin American Arbitration Group of the International Chamber Of Commerce. During his career, he has been a faculty member of several renowned universities in Nicaragua, teaching courses such as civil procedure. Mr Hernandez served as protempore judge of the Sixth Civil District Court, Managua.
Mr Hernandez has been an attorney and public notary since 1995, graduating from the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua. In 2001 he also obtained a master’s degree in private law from the University of Barcelona, Spain. He has a diploma from Harvard University in instruction for lawyers.
He has been contributed to many publications, providing insight into Nicaraguan law; these include Getting the Deal Through: Product Liability (2008), Arbitraje Comercial Internacional en Latinoamérica (2009), International Comparative Legal Guide to International Arbitration (2008, fifth and sixth editions), and Arbitration and Litigation in Central America (2011). He has also published a handbook on Nicaraguan civil procedure and commercial arbitration.
As director of the litigation and arbitration department, Gerardo Hernández has led the litigation team to success in several of the biggest judicial cases in Nicaraguan history.
He speaks Spanish and English.
