Biography:

Who's Who Legal Central America - Dispute Resolution

Gerardo Hernández is a partner at Consortium Legal – Nicaragua and leads the arbitration and litigation practice. He is certified as a commercial arbitrator by the Chamber of Commerce of Nicaragua and has received Advanced PIDA training from the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris. He is a member of the Latin American arbitration group of the International Chamber of Commerce. During his career, he has been a faculty member of several renowned universities in Nicaragua, teaching courses such as civil procedure. Mr Hernandez served as judge pro tempore of the Sixth Civil District Court Managua.

Mr Hernandez has been an attorney and public notary since 1995. He graduated from the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua, and in 2001 obtained a master’s degree in private law from the Univesity of Barcelona, Spain. He has a diploma from Harvard University in instruction for lawyers.

He has contributed to many publications, providing insight into Nicaraguan law. He authored the Nicaraguan chapter of Getting the Deal Through: Product Liability in 2008; Arbitraje Comercial Internacional en Latinoamérica (“International Commercial Arbitration in Latin America”) in 2009; the International Comparative Legal Guide to International Arbitration in 2008 (fifth and sixth editions); and Arbitration and Litigation in Central America in 2011. He has also published a handbook, Nicaraguan Civil Procedure and Commercial Arbitration.

As director of the litigation and arbitration department, Gerardo Hernández has led the litigation team to success in several of the biggest judicial cases in Nicaraguan history.

He speaks Spanish and English.
