Who's Who Legal Trade & Customs: Lawyers

Carolina is one of the five founding partners and International trade practitioners at Sidera Consult, a multinational, multidisciplinary consulting firm focused on trade law, economics, and policy. They work from 6 offices worldwide, based in São Paulo, Brasilia, Campinas, Buenos Aires and Pretoria.

She holds a master’s degree in international economic law and policy from the University of Barcelona, degrees in international trade law from the Institute of Advanced Studies in Geneva, the World Trade Institute in Bern, and a postgraduate degree in law and economics from the Getulio Vargas Foundation, São Paulo. She gained her Bachelor of Laws at the University of São Paulo.

With close to 25 years of experience, Carolina has provided decisive solutions to governments, producers, associations and her peers on everything from trade remedy cases, non-tariff barriers, strategic business promotion, trade policy, market access and expansion, and government interface, as well as any project concerning international trade. She has been practicing international law since 1995, and exclusively working on WTO and WCO affairs since 2002.

Her experience is drawn from representing a myriad of companies before different governmental institutions that, amongst other matters, regulate and apply international trade laws. Carolina also defended the interests of clients across numerous jurisdictions, her focus on European, United States, Canadian and Latin American clients. She has regularly provided reports for policy and strategy recommendation on political trade debates.

Carolina has served as president of the international trade and investments committee of the British Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Britcham) in Brazil for the past year, and has assisted the Brazilian Mission for the United States in Geneva on various international trade matters. In November 2017, the Brazilian Panelist Selection Committee of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) selected Carolina to serve as a WTO panelist for the period of 2018–2021.

As the author of multiple chapters in various international law publications, she has been invited to host a number of lectures around the world in English, Portuguese, Spanish and French.

Former client, Bamboo Ventures, commented: “Carolina was engaged to provide us with a legal-strategic opinion on market-access of specific commodities (agricultural products) from Brazil to Chile, the other Mercosur countries and the United States, as well as a thorough analysis of the applicable trade barriers. Carolina is one of the most exceptional lawyers I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Her dynamic vision, skill, proactive work ethic and charismatic personality make her a remarkable professional to work with. Furthermore, she has the ability to think outside the box, providing original and highly effective solutions to international trade matters. Her endeavour to consistently keep her work focused on her clients makes her an outstanding lawyer.

WWL says: Carolina Saldanha-Ures is “a great lawyer” who focuses her impressive practice on WTO matters and anti-dumping negotiations.
