Stella Duru is one of two female partners of Banwo & Ighodalo (B&I) and the only female partner in the firm’s energy practice group. B&I is a multidisciplinary firm with a six-strong partnership and over 40 other lawyers; it provides first-class legal advice on numerous aspects of corporate and commercial Nigerian law. Stella obtained a law degree from the University of Lagos, Nigeria; and was admitted into the Nigerian Bar on the 23 January 2001.

Her core areas of practice are energy and natural resources, project finance, corporate finance, corporate and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions.

Stella is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the International Bar Association (section on energy and natural resources law) and the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators. She has extensive experience in all of her core areas of practice.

With unrivalled expertise in the Nigerian power sector, and in addition to continuing provision of advisory services on conventional power deals, Stella is currently leading the initiative on renewable energy transactions in the firm and in this regard is currently advising a several international investors considering the development of renewable energy projects in Nigeria.

Stella has authored many articles in leading law publications and also delivered several presentations on diverse subjects, including a presentation titled “Renewable Energy through the Ages – Legal and Regulatory”, delivered at the second Annual REFSA Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Her hobbies include watching films, reading, travelling and participating in intellectual discourse.
