Eliseo Castineira is the founder and principal of the eponymous firm Castineira Law, a boutique arbitration and dispute resolution practice based in Paris, France.
Prior to setting up his own independent practice in January 2010, Eliseo Castineira was an attorney with Andersen Legal (1996–2001) and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (2001–2002) where he specialised in M&A transactions. He also served as counsel at the secretariat of the ICC International Court of Arbitration where he headed the group in charge more particularly of cases in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (2003–2009) and was involved in the case management of approximately 1,000 ICC arbitration proceedings and the scrutiny of approximately 500 ICC awards.
Eliseo Castineira regularly acts as counsel and arbitrator (30 cases as sole arbitrator, co-arbitrator or chairman) in ad hoc proceedings as well as under the aegis of many of the most prestigious arbitral institutions (including ICC, AFA, CAIP, DIS). Eliseo Castineira has been appointed by the Council of Europe as one of its international arbitration experts. He has also acted as consultant with the ICC International Centre for Expertise for ICANN and deals with state court proceedings in connection with arbitration (interim measures, challenge and enforcement of awards).
Eliseo Castineira’s arbitration experience encompasses all types of disputes in many economic sectors (including construction and engineering, M&A, manufacturing, energy and natural resources, pharmaceuticals and telecommunications) throughout the world. Eliseo Castineira has dealt with disputes involving not only businesses (including Fortune Global 500 and CAC 40 companies), but also states and state-owned entities. His expertise in international arbitration is recognised in several rankings.
Eliseo Castineira is a law graduate of the University of Paris and New York University School of Law. He is fluent in French, English and Spanish, has working knowledge of Portuguese and good knowledge of German.
Eliseo Castineira has taught international arbitration at several law schools in Europe, Latin America and North America. He publishes regularly on international arbitration and often speaks at international arbitration conferences. Eliseo Castineira has also trained judges and in-house counsel in international arbitration.
In addition to being admitted as an attorney-at-law to the Paris Bar, Eliseo Castineira is a member of numerous arbitral panels and institutions, including the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR. In particular, he has been involved in the revision of the rules of several arbitral institutions and acts as a member of the board of directors and of the five-member arbitration committee of the French Association for Domestic and International Arbitration (AFA).
