Mr Jiang Liyong is one of the few competition lawyers in China with real working experience in the regulatory authorities. Before he joined Gaopeng as a partner, he previously worked as a legal official in the treaty and law department of the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), PRC; a diplomat of China’s Mission to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva; and a lawyer at King & Wood. Mr Jiang founded the competition law team of Gaopeng, and led his team to join the peer-reviewed ranks of top competition lawyers as recognised by both Chambers and Who’s Who Legal.
Mr Jiang has strong expertise in relation to merger filing. Working with international law firms or independently, Mr Jiang has assisted many multinational or domestic companies in obtaining clearance of MOFCOM smoothly, such as Samsung, Advent Capital, LAM Research, AXA, Gavilon, etc. He is very good at advising clients how to appropriately define the relevant market queries raised by MOFCOM. According to Chambers, “He is very familiar with the antitrust practice in China and has special insights into the law.”
Mr Jiang is experienced in terms of antitrust investigation and compliance. He not only represents clients before the authorities, but also is devoted to the development of the regime. He has stressed on many occasions the importance of lawyer involvement, and improving the transparency of authorities. Mr Jiang is frequently invited to give speech and present comments to the draft made by legislative bodies and authorities.
Mr Jiang received LLM degrees from Peking University and Oxford University. He is proficient in Chinese and English.
