Dr Diana Akikol is a founding partner of ABR Avocats. Her practice concentrates on international commercial arbitration.
Diana Akikol has acted as counsel and adviser to foreign counsel in more than 40 disputes subject to arbitration both in Switzerland and abroad. She has also served as sole arbitrator, emergency arbitrator, co-arbitrator and presiding arbitrator in more than 20 proceedings involving amounts in dispute of up to US$80 million. Both as counsel and arbitrator, she has conducted ad hoc (including UNCITRAL) and administered (predominantly ICC, Swiss and DIS Rules) cases governed by various procedural and substantive laws. She has particular experience in disputes involving sales, M&A, shareholder agreements, joint ventures, construction and engineering, agency agreements, licence and distribution agreements (mainly in the pharmaceutical sector) and maritime cargo claims.
Dr Akikol regularly speaks and publishes in her field, including on setting aside proceedings before the Swiss Federal Supreme Court. She has published a book on the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG) and co-authored a commentary on the CISG.
Diana Akikol holds a law degree from the University of Fribourg (summa cum laude) and a PhD from the University of Lucerne (summa cum laude). She was admitted to the bar in 2002 and served as a clerk to the High Court of Berne for several years before joining the Geneva office of a leading Swiss law firm as a member of its international arbitration practice in 2007. She left the firm together with other lawyers in 2014 to continue her practice at ABR Avocats.
Diana Akikol is fluent in German (native speaker), English and French.
