Called to the Ontario Bar in 1985, Martin Felsky is recognised as the Dean of Canadian e-discovery lawyers. He has contributed to key Canadian e-discovery norms including the Sedona Canada Principles, the Nova Scotia Rules, the Ontario E-Discovery Guidelines, the E-Discovery Implementation Committee (EIC) precedents, and Practice Directions in several jurisdictions.
As co-founder and former CEO (2000–2009) of a large service provider, Dr Felsky brings much-needed technical and real-world business experience to every client project. As a long-time member of the Canadian Judicial Council Judges Technology Advisory Committee (1987-2013), Dr Felsky also gained valuable insights into courtroom technology.
Dr Felsky has advised many of Canada’s largest organisations including the federal Departments of Justice, Health, and Indian and Northern Affairs, as well as companies in sectors such as telecommunications, engineering, construction, energy, oil and gas, health care, banking, retail, insurance, manufacturing, tobacco and pharmaceutical. He is a respected adviser on a wide range of litigation including class actions, international arbitrations and public inquiries.
Dr Felsky also advises clients on litigation preparedness, and the admissibility of electronic records. He is a Government of Alberta pre-qualified Auditor for large-scale imaging projects and has advised public and private organisations in Ontario and Alberta on compliance programs for information security and integrity.
Dr Felsky is sought out as a popular educator and speaker at conferences throughout North America, and has also addressed audiences in Europe, New Zealand and South Africa on e-discovery and other aspects of legal technology. He is currently chair of the board of the Canadian Legal Information Institute (CanLII), sits on the EIC and the Sedona Conference Canada Working Group 7.
