Maggie Stilwell is an experienced dispute advisory partner, specialising in expert witness and expert determinations. She has been with EY for over 20 years and is also a member of the firm’s leadership team. She has experience in a number of sectors including energy, pharmaceuticals, consumer products and financial services. Her special focus is on disputes arising from corporate transactions (share and asset sales).
Maggie has been actively involved in a wide range of forensic accountancy issues and claims including shareholder disputes, breach of contract disputes, employment claims, contractual disputes involving mergers and joint ventures, intellectual property disputes, licensing audits, accounting and financial irregularities. She has given expert witness testimony and acted as the expert on numerous determinations where the parties sought a final and binding decision.
Maggie is a regular speaker on expert determinations and breach of warranty claims. She is co-author of the December 2013 Global Law and Business publication Arbitration of M&A Transactions, contributing the chapter “Price adjustment and closing account disputes”; she is also a selected reviewer of the Sweet & Maxwell publication Expert Determination (fifth edition).
Prior to specialising in dispute services, Maggie built up audit and corporate finance experience. She qualified as a chartered accountant in 1994. Before she qualified, and joined a Big Four professional services firm, Maggie worked in the financial services industry. She has a first-class honours degree in business from Edinburgh University and a dissertation prize winner. Maggie became a partner in 2008.
