Niels Schiersing is dual qualified and admitted to practise both as an advokat in Denmark (with right of audience before the Supreme Court) and as a solicitor of England and Wales, giving him profound and in-depth knowledge of civil law and common law principles alike.
He predominantly serves as arbitrator in domestic and international commercial arbitrations, construction and infrastructure arbitrations, energy arbitrations, commercial chancery arbitrations, insurance and reinsurance arbitrations and maritime arbitrations as well as investment arbitrations.
Mr Schiersing specialises in contract law, ie, the formation, construction/interpretation, adaption, performance and breach of contract, including the principles for determination and calculation of damages, with a wide application as regards industries and sectors and in a common law and civil law context.
Having a background as a transaction (M&A), corporate and commercial lawyer, including substantial experience in drafting international commercial contracts, Mr Schiersing is often involved as arbitrator in disputes concerning a variety of international commercial contracts.
He has served as arbitrator, often presiding arbitrator, under the rules of, eg, ICC, LCIA, SCC, FAI and DIA and in various domestic and international ad hoc arbitrations, under UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules, etc.
Niels Schiersing is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in London (FCIArb).
He recently published a 600-page commentary on the Danish Arbitration Act which in turn is based on the UNCITRAL Model Law. He is currently preparing a book on comparative offshore construction law.
Mr Schiersing is a former lecturer at the University of Copenhagen on several legal subjects and regularly speaks on topics within his areas of competence.
