Louise Barrington has over 25 years of experience in international commercial arbitration, first as director of the ICC's Institute of World Business Law, then as the founding director of ICC Asia in Hong Kong. She has worked as counsel or arbitrator in a number of cases involving construction, international trade, CISG, banking, financial transactions and intellectual property. She has dealt with cases involving European, Hong Kong, Chinese, French, English, Vietnamese, Korean, Qatari, Nigerian, American and Canadian law, and has taught international law and dispute resolution on five continents.
Louise’s professional attributes include extensive transborder and intercultural experience, and “an uncanny ability to bring disputing parties together”. Now dividing her time among bases in Paris, Hong Kong and Toronto, Louise handles both international and domestic cases as sole arbitrator, tribunal chair and party-appointed arbitrator. She is on the rosters of most of the major institutions (ICC, CIETAC, ICDR, HKIAC and others). Her firm, Aculex Transnational Inc, also provides arbitration support to legal teams for larger cases or where special expertise is required.
She writes and speaks extensively on international dispute resolution topics and comparative law. She also continues teaching, as a thesis supervisor and professional trainer, designing and delivering law and business courses for institutions and schools around the world.
Louise is the co-founder and former president of ArbitralWomen (www.arbitralwomen.org) and of the Vis (East) Moot in Hong Kong (www.cisgmoot.org), which she has directed for 14 years. She speaks English, French and Spanish and a little German.
