Bahadir Balki graduated from the University of Bahcesehir (Istanbul) and holds an LLM degree in the field of European economic law from Saarland University – Europa-Institut. He is currently pursuing his PhD education on European Union Law. Mr Balki is an admitted lawyer of the Istanbul Bar Association.
Mr Balki is known for his excellent work discipline together with his intriguing and effective defences which he has repeatedly demonstrated in many major cartel and abuse of dominance investigations launched by Turkish Competition Authority. Mr Balki has successfully led leniency applications and closed many substantial merger control notifications throughout his career. He conducts comprehensive competition compliance programmes and provides legal consultancy services on a day-to-day business for his clients who come from a wide range of industries.
Along with his antitrust practices, Mr Balki also acts on behalf of his clients in anti-dumping investigations. He has contributed to a huge variety of investigations conducted in different industries by Turkish and other antidumping authorities.
As a result of his success, he is acknowledged and welcomed by other institutions in the area of antitrust law. He was invited to the ICN Annual Meeting 2014 as a resource person on Remedies, Commitments and Cooperation. He was also a member of drafting team for ICN Unilateral Conduct Workbook chapters on Loyalty Rebates and Discounts, and Tying.
Mr Balki has acted as an academic referee of the Competition Journal, published by the Turkish Competition Authority. He also conducts annual seminars at summer school, organised by ELSA, on mergers and acquisitions. Additionally, he is one of the guest lecturers in LLM competition law courses at Istanbul Bilgi University.
