Dany is the co-chair of the competition and foreign investment review practice. For the past 20 years, his practice has focused on advising international and domestic clients on all aspects of competition law and foreign investment matters including national security reviews. He has been involved in many of Canada’s highest-profile mergers and investigations in all areas of competition law, including mergers, criminal cartel cases, class actions and abuse of dominance matters. Dany has also appeared on behalf of clients at all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Federal Court, the Ontario Superior Court and the Competition Tribunal, and before the Competition Bureau. He has provided testimony on proposed amendments to the Competition Act before the Canadian Senate and on the Investment Canada Act to a Canadian parliamentary committee.
Dany is also a former adjunct professor of competition law at the University of Western Ontario and the co-author of Competition and Antitrust Law: Canada and the United States (fourth edition) for LexisNexis Butterworths (2014). He is recognised as a leading expert in areas of competition law and foreign investment law and has commented extensively on business, investment and competition issues in both print and for major news outlets. Dany has also served as a private sector adviser to the International Competition Network and as past chairman of the economics committee of the Canadian Bar Association’s national competition law section. He was nominated as a 2015 Deal Maker of the Year by Global Competition Review (GCR), has been named one of the world’s “top 40 competition lawyers under 40” by Global Competition Review and as one of Canada’s “top 40 lawyers under 40” by Lexpert.
