Isabel is a partner in Slaughter and May's competition group. She has a broad practice and advises across a range of industries, including regulated industries, as regards merger control, market investigations, general competition law, sectoral regulatory requirements, and public procurement.
Isabel's recent work includes advising Northern Powergrid on its on its successful "first of its kind" appeal to the Competition and Markets Authority against Ofgem’s price control decision, Bupa on the CMA's private healthcare market investigation, Chi-X on its merger with BATS, and Ireland's Electricity Supply Board on its acquisition of Northern Ireland Electricity.
Isabel has particular expertise in state aid law and is regarded as a leading practitioner in this area. She has advised the UK government on the competition and state aid aspects of several matters, including the bank recapitalisation scheme, the Asset Protection Scheme, the interventions in relation to Northern Rock and Bradford & Bingley, and the establishment of the Green Investment Bank and the British Business Bank. Other clients on state aid issues include the Portuguese Ministry of Finance, Royal Mail and a European central bank.
Isabel is currently chair of the Law Society’s competition section committee and a member of the City of London Law Society’s competition law committee. She is recognised as a leading individual by both Chambers and The Legal 500.
