Clotilde heads Van Bael & Bellis’ Geneva office where she specialises in international trade law, with a particular emphasis on WTO law.
Her practice is primarily focused on WTO dispute settlement proceedings, in which she counsels and assists governments. Her assistance covers all stages of the proceedings, from the consultations to the panel and appellate body stages. Her work has involved a broad range of different substantive areas, including trade in goods, anti-dumping, safeguards, technical regulations, agriculture and subsidies. She also regularly advises clients on the compatibility of WTO members’ rules and practice with the WTO agreements. In addition to WTO law, she advises clients on issues relating to bilateral and regional trade agreements.
Clotilde also has extensive experience in the area of EU customs law, having advised clients on numerous issues concerning EU customs classification, customs valuation and rules of origin.
Clotilde was a key contributor to Van Bael & Bellis’ leading treatise, EU Anti-Dumping and Other Trade Defence Instruments (fifth edition, Kluwer, 2011), a standard work of reference in the field of EU trade law. In addition, she co-authored Export Promotion and the WTO: a Brief Guide (ITC, Geneva, 2009). She regularly gives seminars on WTO law and customs law.
Clotilde holds an LLM in European and international law from the University of Cambridge and a law degree from the Université Catholique de Louvain. She practises in English and French.
