Pablo Bernad is a member of the KPMG forensic services practice, partner and head of KPMG risk consulting in Spain and chairman of the KPMG risk consulting business for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Southwest Asia, which has over 14,000 practitioners.
Mr Bernad specialises in providing independent expert evidence on all types of economic and accounting disputes in arbitration and litigation proceedings at international arbitration institutions, including ICC, LCIA, ICSID and UNCITRAL. Pablo enjoys wide experience in investment arbitration in Latin America. He has given expert evidence over 200 times at different trials and national and international arbitration hearings on a wide variety of jurisdictions. On various occasions he has been appointed as an independent expert by the International Chamber of Commerce to issue independent expert reports at different matters. Pablo has also acted as an expert determiner and sole arbitrator in ad hoc cases involving accounting and financial issues.
Beyond his role as an expert witness and independent expert, Pablo regularly gets involved in early case assessment processes, providing objective and independent financial insights within alternative dispute resolutions processes, including mediation.
Mr Bernad regularly contributes to select publications and articles and participates in debates and seminars at prestigious institutions on subjects related to accounting and economic issues, focusing on the different ways to provide expert witness analysis, mediate disputes and re-engineer agreements.
From 1997 to 1999, Mr Bernad worked at the KPMG London forensic department and took part in large multinational projects. Over his career, he has led projects in many different countries including the United Kingdom, USA, Switzerland, Mexico, Argentina, Algeria, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Congo and Indonesia.
Mr Bernad graduated in business studies and completed his master's in business administration from ESADE. He is a member of the Spanish Institute of Chartered Accountants, listed in the Spanish Official Register of Auditors and a member of the Spanish Register of Forensic Economists.
Pablo was also selected as being one of the expert witnesses to be recognised in Who’s Who Legal: Arbitration from 2012 onwards by Global Arbitration Review.
He is chair of the professorship for financial investigations at University Rey Juan Carlos.
