Marcos Peña R is the founding partner of Jimenez Cruz Peña, a law firm located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He is a former member of the board of directors of the Consumer Protection Agency, nominated by the Dominican business community and the former president of the British Chamber of Commerce. Marcos is currently a member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration representing the Dominican Republic. He is a member of the board of directors of the Center for Dispute Resolution of the Chamber of Commerce of Santo Domingo. He is an independent director at the Bolsa de Valores de la Republica Dominicana (BVRD) and Primera ARS de Humano. At Jimenez Cruz Peña, he focuses his professional practice on litigation and alternative dispute resolution (local and international arbitration), as well as economic regulation, energy, project finance and government (contracts, concessions and legislation).
Before founding JCP in 2003, Mr Peña completed nine years at the local office of an international firm, first as an associate and later as a partner in charge of litigation. He subsequently joined as a partner in the Santo Domingo branch of a US law firm.
Marcos pursued a law degree at Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Ureña in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (1989) and an LLM in international business law at King’s College London (1994).
Mr Peña has been recognised by Chambers Latin America, Chambers Global, IFLR, Who’s Who Legal and The Legal 500.
Marcos has acted as arbitrator in international and local arbitrations and as local and lead counsel in international and local arbitrations. He has also appeared as expert witness in matters of Dominican law. Marcos has authored and co-authored numerous articles and contributions on arbitration and trade in the Dominican Republic. He was one of the practitioners who contributed to the drafting and approval of the arbitration legislation of the Dominican Republic.
