Who's Who Legal Asset Recovery: Lawyers

Yves Klein holds a law degree from the University of Geneva and a diploma of higher studies in international law from the Graduate Institute of International Studies of Geneva. He was admitted to the Geneva bar in 1995 and is a partner at Monfrini Crettol & Associés, which he joined in 1999.

His main activity is litigating and coordinating transnational asset recovery proceedings before civil, criminal and bankruptcy courts on behalf of victims of economic crimes.

Together with Enrico Monfrini, Yves Klein has been conducting since 1999 the ground-breaking multibillion corruption recovery proceedings in the Nigeria v Abacha case, and, more recently, the Haiti v Duvalier, Brazil v Dos Santos and Tunisia v Ben Ali cases. Yves Klein has also been retained as Swiss counsel in several other corruption cases, notably on behalf of Antigua and Barbuda and Trinidad and Tobago.

He is also active in transnational recovery proceedings on behalf of companies, bankruptcy estates and individual victims of economic crimes, and notably is the Swiss counsel to Stanford International Bank Ltd (in liquidation), Antigua, in view of recovering the proceeds of the second largest Ponzi scheme in history.

Yves Klein is the Swiss representative of ICC FraudNet, the leading global network of fraud and asset recovery lawyers, operating under the International Chamber of Commerce, and the chair of the asset recovery subcommittee of the IBA anti-corruption committee.

He has published on tracing and recovery of assets issues since 1996, and regularly speaks at international conferences on these matters.

Yves Klein speaks French, English, Portuguese and Spanish fluently, as well as some Italian and German.

WWL says: Yves Klein is a “renowned strategist” who is “extremely adept at developing a method and approach to successfully pursue worldwide asset recovery efforts”.
