Markus Röhrig joined Hengeler Mueller in 2004 and has been a partner since 2009. He is based in the Brussels office.
Mr Röhrig has received his legal education at the University of Cologne and Georgetown University. He is admitted to the German and the New York bars.
Mr Röhrig specialises in German and European competition law. Mr Röhrig frequently advises clients with respect to European and German cartel investigations. Recently, he has been involved in major international cartel cases that are being pursued by the European Commission, the US Department of Justice and the Japan Fair Trade Commission in the automotive and other sectors.
Mr Röhrig also frequently represents clients in merger control proceedings before the European Commission and the German Federal Cartel Office and helps them to efficiently handle filing requirements worldwide. Major clients which Mr Röhrig advised in recent years include Siemens (formation of a joint venture with Wood Group), Talanx (acquisition of the Polish insurance group Warta), RWE (acquisition of the Dutch incumbent Essent), Austrian Airlines (takeover by Lufthansa).
Mr Röhrig also advises on a wide array of other competition-related issues including the abuse of market power, both before the agencies and the courts, antitrust compliance, and internal investigations.
